Christopher McCandless

aka Alexander Supertramp

At the moment, I'm sitting in my room and I've just finished watching Into the Wild, a marvelous film recommended to me by two dear friends on this trip, Chris and Aaron. It's a story of courage and adventure. It's about freedom from the oppressing norms of society, and of the beautiful friendships and realizations one stunningly courageous man makes while following his dreams.

There are a couple of quotes that I jotted down while watching.
Simple and profound.

"The core of man's spirit comes from new experiences...you gotta get back out into the world...you gotta get back on the road."

"You're wrong if you think the joy of life comes principally from human relationships. God's placed it all around us...it's in everything. It's in anything we can experience."

"For a moment, she rediscovered the purpose of her life. She was here on earth to grasp the meaning of its wild enchantment and to call each thing by its right name."

"Happiness is only real when shared."

"When you forgive, you love, and when you love, God's light shines on you."

"If you want something in life, reach out and grab it."

"What if I were smiling and running into your arms? Would you see then what I see now?"

Needless to say, his story has profoundly inspired me and reawakened my respect and appreciation for the natural world around us.
Read it. Watch it. Enjoy.
